I have been a legal reporter and editor for 25 years – in daily and weekly newspapers, on the Internet, and most recently as executive editor of The American Lawyer magazine.
Now I teach journalism and media law at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, where I direct the new Carnegie Legal Reporting Program. I also work as a freelance magazine and newspaper journalist.
As reporter and editor, my work has focused on law and lawyers, courts, business' legal troubles, drug enforcement, crime, the business of large law firms, and lately the intersection of politics, media, and the courts. At LawBeat, I blog about notable legal journalists and their work. (Go here for my conflict-of-interest disclaimer for LawBeat.)
Here's more about me and samples of my work.
